A clear guide to alcohol-free fragrances: what makes them different, why they last longer, and how to find the right one for your skin.
Every Hareem Istanbul fragrance is alcohol-free. This is not a marketing claim — it is a formulation decision that affects everything: how the fragrance opens, how long it lasts, how it interacts with your skin, and whether it is suitable for daily wear regardless of your lifestyle or faith.
Conventional perfumes are typically 70–85% ethyl alcohol. The alcohol does three things: it carries the fragrance to the skin, it creates the initial burst of scent on application, and then it evaporates — taking a significant portion of the fragrance with it. This is why so many popular perfumes require re-application after three to four hours.
Oil-based, alcohol-free fragrances behave differently. Without the alcohol carrier, the aromatic compounds bond directly to the skin's natural oils. They do not evaporate — they evolve. They warm with your body temperature over the day. This is why our customers consistently report eight to twelve hours of wear, and why oud-based fragrances in particular smell different at noon than they did at 9am.
For Muslim buyers, the alcohol-free formulation also removes a concern about permissibility. All Hareem Istanbul fragrances comply with Islamic fragrance guidelines: no ethyl alcohol, no animal-derived ingredients, no prohibited substances. They are Halal-suitable without any modification or compromise in quality.
Our entire catalogue — from the Composers series to the Oud Collection to the Niche body mists — is formulated alcohol-free. EU and Turkish cosmetic approval means they have been independently tested for skin safety. We have nothing to hide and nothing to apologise for in what we make.
